Less than a month after his Official Visit to Duke, Luke Kennard has decided to attend Duke University as Duke's first recruit in the class of 2015. Luke Kennard is currently ranked 24th by ESPN in the class of 2015 and was highly coveted by many top schools. His final list of schools included Duke, Ohio St, Kentucky, Michigan, Louisville, Florida and UNC before he ultimately decided on Duke. Duke offered Kennard over the summer and quickly picked up ground on the young man who grew up a Kentucky fan. In ultimately landing Kennard, Duke brings in a very talented guard who will bring many different skills to help Duke win, in the short term and long term.
Luke Kennard is a very talented guard who will bring a lot of scoring and versatility to the Duke Basketball program. Like many recruits that Duke pursues, Kennard has a very good shot and was a very efficient scorer in his junior year of high school. He also has the ability to play any of the wing positions, which will be a huge help to Duke. He also has top notch character and will be a great part of Duke's winning culture. You can see his junior mixtape from Scarberry Media here. Also, check out Zach Fleer's scouting report on Luke Kennard here.
After taking his Official Visit to Duke, Luke had nothing but good things to say about Duke, "I loved every moment that I spent down there. It's such a great place to be and it's a place where you can develop not only as a player but as a person." Even before his visit, Luke commented that his offer from Duke, "was like a dream come true." Even though Kentucky was considered the favorite for most of his recruitment, Duke was always a school he thought very highly of. By choosing Duke before he took an Official Visit to Kentucky, Kennard showed who the true leader in his recruitment was.
After missing out on Tyler Dorsey and Ben Simmons, Duke has now gotten their first commitment in the 2015 class. Kennard is a solid guard who will give them great depth and versatility. He also gives them a great student and young man who will contribute to the winning culture that Coach K desires. He is a welcomed addition and will be a huge part of what will hopefully be another solid recruiting class for Coach K.
