Tonight, the Duke Blue Devils take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta, Georgia for their second meeting of the season. In their first meeting, Duke started slow, but then picked up their intensity in the second half. Led by Rodney Hood and his 27 points, Duke cruised to a 79-57 victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium over a month ago. With a bigger emphasis on defense and team oriented basketball, this is almost a brand new Duke team, while Tech has floundered. They haven’t played a tough team outside of Duke, Pitt, and UVA and they lost all of those games. At 13-12, this shouldn’t be a game that Duke should have trouble with, but every team will throw all they have when at Cameron Indoor.
Things to Watch
Quinn Cook: Quinn has struggled a lot of late and has seen his playing time go down with every game. It started with his shot, which hasn’t seemed to have fallen in quite some time. Once this happened, this affected his playmaking ability as he began to make bad passes on a more consistent basis. Again, this is a player who led the country for a portion of last season in assist to turnover ratio. He had a big game against Boston College, but disappointed in the last game against Maryland, barely seeing any time in the second half and down the stretch when things were tight. It will be important to see how Quinn plays after starting his first game in a while against Maryland.
Don’t Play Down to GT: Everybody knows what this week holds for Duke. In two days, Duke plays rival UNC at the Dean Dome in the makeup game after the snow storm that hit the east coast last week. On Saturday, the Blue Devils have the rematch against Syracuse, but this one at home in Durham as Duke welcomes the #1 team in the nation. Then on Monday, Duke has yet another game. It’s important that Duke doesn’t forget about this game against GT because it could easily become one of those games where you lose sight of the task at hand because you are focused on a game that isn’t the one that you are currently playing.
